No more ‘late window’ for NMC registration

The Nursing and Midwife Council (NMC) will be scrapping the short administrative window in which late registration can be made. From November, anybody who allows their registration to lapse will have to go through a complete readmission procedure. This can take between two and six weeks the NMC warns and applies to all nurses, including registered general nurses, mental health nurses, learning disabilities nurses, and community psychiatric nurses.

Whilst the majority of nurses keep their registration up-to-date, it’s the small but consistent number of people that continue to allow their registration to lapse.

Having an absolute cut-off point of midnight on their expiry date, will enable the newly introduced quarterly registration fee payment system to operate smoothly, the NMC has said.
The quickest way to register is by setting up an NMC online account and if you are not exactly sure when your expiry date is, find out and put it in the diary now!
