What's new for Biomedical Scientists' HCPC renewal

This year, all biomedical scientists are required to renew their registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) by 30 November 2017 at 6 pm, with renewal opening Tuesday, 1 September 2017.

Since it cannot be sent via electronic mail, if you choose to renew with a paper renewal form, remember that it will take up to 10 days for the paper to be printed and mailed to your residence.

What’s new from the HCPC?

The HCPC published an updated guide on ‘Continuing professional development and your registration,’ and you can look at it here. Some of our resources that we discuss below can help you as well.

The HCPC also revealed a revised ‘Standards of education and training (SETs) and guidance,’ in June. This may concern you because only education and training programmes that meet these standards, after the SETs are implemented in September 2017, can count towards your continuing professional development for courses taken. Therefore, it is imperative to verify that the training/education you are pursuing meets the HCPC’s standards.

Lastly, the HCPC is looking for a lay Council member. For more information on this position please visit the website here. The deadline for applications is 18 September 2017 at 9 a.m.

Do you need help organising your CPD log?

Our downloadable guide on ‘Preparing your CPD profile’ can help you organise your CPD activity so it is ready for submission!

Our downloadable guide is beneficial because it provides you with a section to write down your CPD activity, useful tips on CPD preparation and a diverse set of examples for activities for you to reflect on. Some of these activities include, but are not limited to examples like case studies, supervising research, writing articles or papers and reading/reviewing journals, books and articles.

Could your CPD use some extra proof of training?

Although you may already do a great deal of research as a biomedical scientist, everything you can add to prove that you have increased your knowledge both in your job and in other skills, such as communication, will only add more benefit to your CPD.

Currently, our classroom-courses are now limited to specific fields, although we are expanding. Still, we can provide you with online training courses that are skills-based, low-priced and easily accessible and manageable.

We went through our courses and found five that we feel would be beneficial for those who work in biomedical scientist jobs to refresh knowledge and contribute to your skills and are related to the HCPC standards of proficiency.

These courses include:

Effective Communication for Health and Social Care - £12.00 including VAT
Information Security – £12.00 including VAT
Information Sharing and Consent - £12.00 including VAT
Keeping Good Records - £12.00 including VAT
Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) - £18.00 including VAT

We are constantly adding to our courses, so keep checking Sanctuary Training to stay updated.
