    Are you looking for a new Biomedical Scientist role?

    Sanctuary Health is currently looking for an experienced and dedicated Biomedical Scientist to fill a full-time role in Guernsey. The ideal candidate will possess highly developed specialist knowledge of Biomedical Scientist practices and be registered with the HCPC.

    The pay rate for this locum Biomedical Scientist job is £30-£32 per hour (LTD Company Equivalent) and is an initial 3-month contract.

    Job Summary:
    To provide a comprehensive and cost-effective microbiology and virology service on behalf of the Health & Social Services Department to the Medical Specialist Consultants, General Practitioners and other staff at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital. To ensure all work is carried out to the highest standard in accordance with local Clinical Governance procedures.

    Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
    - To ensure that specimens are received, booked in, processed to the highest standard and reports are dispatched with an acceptable time frame.
    - Culture, isolation and identification of most common clinically important bacteria.
    - Testing of pathogens for antibiotic sensitivity and to maintain an up to date scientific knowledge of principles on antibiotics.
    - To notify the Microbiologists and Clinicians of abnormal results which require immediate clinical attention.
    - To use the laboratory computer system to input requests, validate and report results.
    - Identification of parasites.
    - To perform virology serology tests which are not part of clinical chemistry.
    - Perform routine medical mycology procedures
    - To update protocols as directed by the Section Head.
    - To participate in internal and external quality assurance schemes.
    - To maintain high quality standards within the section and comply with the Health & Social Services Department Clinical Governance procedures.
    - To participate in internal audit and other departmental data collection activities.
    - To support and supervise trainees and Medical Laboratory Assistants in the section
    - Assist with general duties in the absence of Medical Laboratory Assistant.
    - To deal with departmental enquiries as appropriate within the limits of individual qualifications/experience.
    - Maintain departmental records as appropriate.
    - Routine maintenance and troubleshooting of all diagnostic equipment within the section to ensure satisfactory performance.
    - To be aware of new diagnostic techniques which will enhance the quality of local service

    Requirements of the Biomedical Scientist:
    - HCPC Registered
    - Recent post qualifying experience within a similar role
